• History 

University of ilorin, nicknamed as unilorin with a motto known as probitas doctrina ( character and learning) is a federal government owned university situated in ilorin Kwara state. It was established by a Decree of the Federal Military Government in August, 1975.

 The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower, so vital for the rapidly expanding economy. 

Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country, the institution has one of the largest landmass covering approximately 5000 hectares of land. 

Unilorin was known for being the best in all aspects, it started is academic career with 200  students you were admitted to the institution on October 23rd 1976 and just three faculties which is faculty of Arts, faculty of Science and faculty of Education in 25th of October 1976.

 

• Academic stability 

 University of ilorin maintain over 15 faculties which are Agriculture, Arts, Communication and Science, College of Health Science, Basic Medical Science, Clinical Science, Education, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Science, Life Science, Law, Management Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Physical Science, Social Science, Veterinary Medicine; with over 60 departments in the campus . 

The aggregate number of student is 28,500 and staff strength are up to 2856 as it was reported in 2009/10.

Unilorin has high quality and qualified lecturers and professors in Nigeria and international level example cited is Mrs cleonice Balogun from Japan and Dr M. A. Punyasena from Sri Lanka in India. 

Unilorin has the most fastest academic calendar among the federal universities and states except few of private institutions.

University of ilorin according to Economic Confidential, “of the 40 federal universities in the country, UNILORIN is number one followed by the University of Benin, South-South Nigeria, with student-applicants of 81,363 made up of 39,729 male applicants and female applicants of 41,571.

Ahmadu Bello University, North-West Nigeria is third in the ranking while the fourth and the fifth are the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Bayero University, Kano both South-East and North-West Nigeria respectively”. And unilorin has been the fastest growing university in Nigeria both in number of student admitted and infrastructural development.

 Unilorin still maintain its position as number one with admitting range of undergraduate students which is 12,000 and post graduate students worth 5,000 in aggregation. 

As you can see unilorin still take place in getting highest point which is 5.31 percent in 2020 UTME examination which carry about 103,582 out of 1.9million.

 University of ilorin does not spike up their dues and fees despite their standard of learning and professionalism.
